Ours is a Jesus movement born in the fires of America’s second great awakening in the early nineteenth century. We believe Jesus came, died, and rose again for all people and that all people need an abiding relationship with him in order to truly live both now and for eternity.
He promised abundant life to all who follow him, and it is our task as his followers to introduce people to him.
The California Churches of God Doctrinal Statement is an early doctrinal statement published by the General Conference taken from “Winebrenners View” the founder of the Churches of God in 1830. The followers of John Winebrenner called themselves the Church of God. They professed to hold to no creed but the Bible, repudiated sectarianism, baptized by immersion, and observed as an ordinance the washing of feet in conjunction with the Lord’s Supper. While there are much newer doctrinal statements such as the General Conference’s “We Believe”, the Churches of God still hold to this earlier version.
